Yungbae Yang recently completed his fourth year as a resident at The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. In the 2006 season, he will be performing 1st Nazarene in Salomé with the Opera Company of North Carolina, Jake Wallace and Castro in La Fanciulla del West with the Tampa Bay Opera, conducted by Maestro Antonio Coppola and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival. His roles at AVA include Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Ford in Falstaff, Valentin in Faust, Frank in Edgar, David in L'amico Fritz, Robert in Iolanta, and Petrucci in Lucrezia Borgia. He protrayed Byn-satto in the Korean Opera Choonhyang-jun with the Philadelphia Korean Musicians Association in 2002, as well as the role of Belcore in L'elisir d'amore.
In 2004, Mr. Yang was a soloist in Beethoven's No. 9 Symphony with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in Washington. Mr. Yang participated in the Portland Opera summer program in 2002. He was a New York District winner in the 2003 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 1st place winner of the Marian Anderson Competition in 2004, and a winner of the Liederkranz Foundation Award (2004), Opera Index Vocal Competition (2004), and the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition (2005). Yungbae was a 2nd place winner in the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition and the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition. Yungbae Yang is a native of Busan, Korea. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea and was a member of the Chorus of The National Theater of Korea. Website: www.YungbaeYang.com |
