Mezzo-soprano Lester Senter made her Dallas Opera
Debut as the Mayor's Wife in Janacek's Jenufa in
1993.She has also appeared with the Dallas Opera in Rigoletto (1994)
and Il Trovatore (1995).
Ms. Senter, a native of Louisiana, began her career with the Rossini heroines in La Cenerentola, The Italian Girl in Algiers and The Barber of Seville. She has performed with opera companies in New Orleans, Glimmerglass, Spoleto, Grand Rapids, Knoxville, Shreveport, Jackson (MS), Milwaukee, Memphis and Des Moines, to name a few, as well as symphony orchestras in Guadalajara, Mexico, Dublin, Ireland, Denver, Birmingham, Shreveport, Cedar Rapids and Jackson, Mississippi. She made her New York debut with a piece commissioned for her. The New York Times reviewed the piece by saying she sang "superbly". Ms. Senter also performed Robinson: The Cat composed by Colman Pearce for her based upon a children's story by Walter Anderson. With that she opened the Mississippi Chamber Symphony in 1998 and has performed the piece in a number of places across the South and in Ireland where she appeared with RTE Orchestra. The performance was broadcast in Ireland. Ms. Senter returns to Ireland in 2000 for a recital. Additionally, Ms. Senter has completed two CDs this fall: One, Somebody's Darling containing music from the Civil War. The second is The Owl and the Pussycat -- and other songs from the collection of Mrs. Jefferson Davis. This music all came from the collection of the Mississippi State Museum.
