For her performances of Beatrice with the Aspen Music Festival, the Denver Post praised that "mezzo-soprano Melina Pineda, brought commendable fire and feistiness to the role of Beatrice. With her big, embracing voice, she delivered much of the playfulness and barbed banter needed in the Act I duet between Beatrice and Benedict." Ms. Pineda is a winner of the 2003 Florida Grand Opera/ Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition, as well as a finalist in the Heinz Rehfuss Voice Competition and the Palm Beach Opera Competition.
Upcoming engagements include Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with Knoxville Opera and Boston Lyric Opera in 2006. In the 2003-04 season, Melina Pineda performs numerous roles with Florida Grand Opera, including Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Flora in La Traviata, the title role of the American Premiere of Ede Donath's Szulamit, Concepcion in a tour of L'Heure espagnole, and covered Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera.
