Daesan No Baritone Daesan No hails from Seoul, Korea. He earned a Bachelor of Music from Han-Yang University in Seoul. At the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, he earned his Graduate Performance Diploma and Master of Music degree. He has recently graduated with an Artist Diploma in Opera from the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where he studied with Louis Quilico and Bill Schuman.

His opera credits include the title role in Falstaff, which he sang at Tanglewood last summer under the baton of Seiji Ozawa; the title role in Rigoletto with Annapolis Opera; Malatesta in Don Pasquale; Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte and Schaunard in La Bohéme with International Washington Opera. He has appeared as a soloist in Mendelssohn's Elijah, Haydn's Creation and Mass in Time of War, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Honolulu Symphony and Handel's Messiah at Avery Fisher Hall in New York and Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. Along with Ruth Ann Swenson and James Morris, he was featured on a recent gala at The Academy of Music of Philadelphia. This past April he sang Marcello in La Bohéme at the Academy of Vocal Arts.

Mr. No has appeared in concerts with BBC National Orchestra of Wales at Barbican Hall in London, the Korean Broadcasting Station Orchestra, the Seoul Baroque Ensemble and the Seoul Academy Symphony Orchestra.

His awards include the prestigious Lieder Prize in the 1999 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, first prizes in the Mario Lanza Competition, the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation International Voice Competition, LiederKranz Foundation Voice Competition, the James Parkinson Italian Opera Competition, and winner of Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in Canada 2002. He also won the Placido Domingo Fellowship Award at the Academy of Vocal Arts.

Under the auspices of The Marilyn Horne Foundation, he was presented in recital at New York City's Kosciuszko Foundation, and in January 2001, appeared on the Foundation's 8th Annual Recital. In March 2001 he was presented in recital in Ames, Iowa and, in October 2001, was co-presented in recital by the Foundation and the Vocal Arts Society in Washington, D.C.

Recent and upcoming engagements includes the title role of Rigoletto with Lyric Opera of San Antonio, August of 2003 and his return to San Antonio as Leporello in Don Giovanni and Marcello, Leporello with Opera Delaware, the Performing Arts Center in Seoul, Korea, the roles of Bonze and Yamadori in Madama Butterfly with Opera Columbus, and Scarpia cover in Tosca with New York City Opera. He will also sing a recital with the Artist Series of Sarasota this coming winter of 2004.
