Soprano Kate Egan, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin holds degrees in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Since her debut as Micaela in Carmen with Sarasota Opera, Kate has performed leading roles with opera companies including the New York City Opera, Chautauqua, Glimmerglass, Mobile, Sacramento, Skylight, Tampa Bay, Tulsa, and Utah Operas, the New England Lyric Operetta, the Rockford Symphony and the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players. She made her European debut with Opera North in England after being invited by director Jonathan Miller to join an all English cast of Cimarosa's The Secret Marriage.
Kate has toured with the Philip Glass Ensemble in La Belle et la Bete and Monsters of Grace. Her versatility as a singing actress won her the role of Elsa Schraeder in the national company of The Sound of Music starring Maria Osmond, and a role in the Public Theatre's production of Caryl Churchill's The Skryker (with music by Judith Weir). Also accomplished on the concert stage, Kate made her Carnegie Hall debut as the soprano soloist in the Poulenc Gloria with the Orchestra of St. Luke's and the Westminster Choir. Highlights of the past several seasons include the title role in Semele with Anchorage Opera, Josephine in HMS Pinafore with Mobile Opera, Rose Maurrant in Street Scene with Chautauqua, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, a role she has sung for the Anchorage and Tulsa Operas, as well as Opera Longview. Other engagements have included Adele in Die Fledermaus with Tampa Bay and Anchorage Operas, Yum Yum in The Mikado with Chautauqua and Anchorage Operas, Corilla in Donizetti's Viva La Mamma with Skylight Opera, Adina in L'Elisir d'amore with the Anchorage Opera and Musetta in La Bohème with the Rockford Symphony. Kate has sung Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra and is familiar to audiences in her adopted hometown of Anchorage for her many appearances with Anchorage Opera, the Anchorage Music Festival, the Alaska Chamber Singers and the Anchorage Concert Chorus. She recently recorded a CD of duets with mezzo –soprano, Marlene Bateman, and pianist, Juliana Osinchuk, called, "Nothing but singing to do." The CD will be released in April of 2008. Kate will sing Rosina in Il Barbiere di Seviglia with Anchorage Opera this coming season. |
