Vanessa Conlin

Young American singer, Vanessa Conlin, has been acclaimed for the beauty of her voice, her exciting state presence and her superb musicianship in both soprano and high mezzo-soprano repertoire. Opera News hailed her as having an "incisive, personal timbre and real dramatic presence in her portrayal of Miss Jessel. (The turn of the Screw) ResMusica.com praised her "superb Donna Elvira, for her exquisite musicality, the complexion of the sound, the purity of the production of the sound, and the technical mastery of the singer all of which contribute to a performance of the highest level."

Opera Magazine (UK) said "Vanessa Conlin made an alert, utterly persuasive Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), an apt quicksilver quality allowing her soprano to soar aloft." The Daily Freeman (NY) said "Vanessa Conlin is a skyrocket of vocal and physical flamboyance in this role (Musetta in La Boheme)." Ms. Conlin was a member of the original cast of Baz Luhrmann's production of La Boheme on Broadway.

"Vanessa Conlin is drop-dead gorgeous, and that adds to her Juliet" (Romeo et Juliette), according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "but her sex appeal would mean little without her artless acting, her winning combination of vocal weight and agility, and her warm musicality. No version of this story can work unless the audience falls in love with Juliet. Conlin's is irrestible."

Recent engagements include Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera with Opera Columbus; Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Lyrique-en-Mar Festival in Belle-Ile, France and the Astoria Music Festival; Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and Abigail in The Crucible at Toledo Opera; Yuletide Pops Concerts with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchiwith Amarillo Opera. In 2004, Ms Conlin created the principal role of Diana in the world premiere of The Carmina Burana with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra; Micaela in Carmin with the Evansville Philharmonic; Musetta in La Boheme with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and at the Belleayre Summer Music Festival; Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Schrew with the Toledo Opera; and Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Bardavon Opera House. She has appeared with the West Virginia Symphony as soprano soloist in Carmina Burana, Handel's Messiah, and in an evening of opera arias.

Upcoming engagements include the Mozart Requiemand the Berlioz Les Nuits d'Ete with the Amarillo Symphony; The Three Divas concert with the Northwest Sinfonietta; and a return engagement with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Equally at home in the song literature, Ms. Conlin is a frequest recitalist, most recently appearing with the Ensemble for the Romantic Century at New York's Kosciuszko Foundation. At a recent ceremony honoring Grammy-winner George Crumb with a Lifetime Achievement Award, Ms. Conlin was invited to perform a set of the composer's songs.

In 2003, Ms. Conlin won the Encouragement Award at the Sullivan Foundation Competition and was the third place finalist in the Excellence in Arts competition. She is also the recipient of a study grant from the Musicians Club of New York. She holds a Bachelot or Music degree from Manhattan School of Music and a Master's Degree from Boston University, where she was the winner of the Concerto Competition and was presented as soloist with the orchestra in Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne.

Ms. Conlin is a native of Texas who now resides in Manhattan.
