Dorji Ciren Dorji Ciren was born in Lhasa, Tibet. After graduating from Northwest National University in Lanzhou, China, he received a Master's Degree in Music from the Concervatory of China in Beijing. Upon finishing his studies, he taught music as a professor at Tibet University in Lhasa for almost 8 years. During this time, he studied voice with various teachers, including Professor Jian Ying, one of the most prestigious voice teachers in China.

During these early years of study, Dorji appeared in many important concerts including the 5th Five Continent Cup Concert and the China Central TV Chinese New Year's Performance. He also performed a solo recital and participated in a concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Schubert. In addition to his frequent performances, he was a winner of several competitions in China including the Five Continent Cup CCTV Competition and the 5th National Youth Competition. He also won 3rd prize in the Ner and Xi Xing Hai National Vocal Competition and in the most prestigious one, the Competition for Professional Vocalists of China, he won first prize.

Outside of China, Dorji competed in the 6th International Opera Competition in Marseille and won 1st prize, as well as 2nd prize in the 7th International Belvedere Competition in Vienna.

In 1998 Dorji participated in Opera Colorado's Young Artists Program. There he performed the leading roles in Romeo and Juliette, Il Tabarroand Madama Butterly. He also participated in many recitals including 2 for the Asian Performing Arts of Colorado and From China with Love at the Denver Performing Arts Center. During this time he also won 1st prize in the Fort Collins Opera Competition and was regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

The year 2000 saw Dorji in New York to study at Mannes College. While at Mannes he performed in the Fort Worth Singers Festival Concert and sang the tenor solo in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Carnegie Hall. During this time he was a winner in the Opera Index Competition, received 1st prize in the New Jersey State Opera International Competition and received an award from the Gerda Lissner Foundation.

Since graduating from Mannes, Dorji participated in performances of the opera TEA by noted composer Tan Dun, in Shanghai and also performed the part of the Young Servant in Elektra at the Arena di Verona. This past July, Dorji appeared in a recital of arias and Tibetan folk songs in denver, and also appeared in a recital in the Grand Theater in Vancouver, Canada.

10 years ago, Dorji was awarded membership in the association of China Central TV Special Outstanding Performers. This year, he had the status of Special Artist conferred upon him by the Tibetan government. In addition to his opera repertoire, Dorji is familiar with and has performed much of the Tibetan folk and popular music.
