Tenor Jin Hwan Byun received his Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the Seoul National University of Music in Seoul, Korea and a Performer’s Diploma in Professional Opera Studies from Indiana University. While at Indiana University, Mr. Byun sang the roles of Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Alfredo (La Traviata), and Fenton (Falstaff). Mr. Byun completed the St. Louis Young Artist Program, where he covered the role of Nicias in Massenet’s Thais. In the Spring of 2004, he won the NASL competition and received the Primavera Award for Bel Canto Competition 2004. He performed Borsa (Rigoletto) with Indianapolis Opera in May 2004. At the Indiana University Opera Theatre September 2004, Mr. Byun took the lead as Rodolfo in La Boheme. Mr. Byun sang the role of Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Nashville Opera in October 2004. He was a finalist for the Metropolitan National Council in Chicago District 2004. The following season, Mr. Byun took part in the Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist Showcase as Nadir in the Pearl Fishers, and in the title role of Don Carlo in May 2005. Mr. Byun received the top prize at the NSAL competition and was a winner in the Bel Canto Foundation Competition that same year. He also sang Rodolfo once again in the School Opera Program at Florida Grand Opera in September 2005. As a Young Artist in Florida Grand Opera, he made his main stage debut as Trin (La Faciulla del West), Borsa (Rigoletto), and Remondado (Carmen). Mr. Byun also covered the Duke in Rigoletto, and Tonio (La Fille du Regiment). He took part in Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist’s Showcase as Nemorino in L’elisir D’amore and Lippo in Street Scene in May 2006. Jin sang Remendado with Toledo Opera and will returned to Toledo Opera to sing the 1st Jew in Salome. He will sing b>Alfredo (La Traviata) with the New Rochelle Opera and with Fort Collins Opera. |
